Guitar painting is not done in a mass manner. We treat each instrument individually and it is priced accordingly. The cheapest refinish of the entire guitar starts from 700 euros. We will give you an exact price after establishing the details – see the Let’s Start tab.
The duration of the work depends on the guitar model and the scope of work performed. On average, the process of refinishing a whole guitar takes about 10 weeks.
We focus on Gibsons. Sometimes we also refinish old Fenders. At the moment we do not deal with other brands. If something changes – we will inform you about it.
At the moment we only do all repairs during refinishing. This means that we will not repair a cracked headstock unless you also want to refinish the entire guitar. In that case we will repair the headstock and refinish the guitar for you.
Many luthiers, guitar painters and even guitar manufacturers who say they use nitro, are actually using a hybrid. Hybrid means that the instrument has two different types of paint on it. In the first phase, it is painted with a paint other than nitro (e.g. poly varnish, acrylic, shellac, etc.), and only in the second phase of painting is nitro used. We don’t use hybrid and don’t use any other varnishes. We use only 100% nitro in our work, just as Gibson has always done.
Two of the same guitars produced by Gibson with serial numbers back to back can differ in shade – and in some cases, dramatically.
Despite the fact that we have many vintage/modern colors, we are often unable to copy the colors from the photo. This is due to many factors. Each piece of wood has a different natural color (very often two pieces of maple top on the same guitar can have a different color). The varnish looks different in warm light, different in cold light, different in bright light, different in dark light. In addition, guitar photos are always computer-processed, color corrected. Therefore, with so many factors influencing the perception of colors and despite our best intentions – it is difficult to meet this. Therefore, we ask for a common-sense approach to expectations and a large margin of tolerance, because we do not accept complaints about colors.
Nitro varnish is a very specific varnish. It scratches, settles, chips, crumbles, burns, reacts with the environment, discolours or cracks easily. In addition, the varnish we use has a composition that, under certain conditions, can accelerate the occurrence of the above-described effects. Of course, this does not mean that your guitar will have the above features – but you must be aware that it can happen to it.
The wood from which the instrument is made is constantly working and is not free from defects that can directly affect the quality of the work we do.
Despite very good conditions in the paint shop and a properly cleaned and degreased surface of the instrument, eye-popping of the paint may occur. This is a direct result of the properties of the wood.
